TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party central executive board chairman Desmond Junaidi Mahesa said that the entire party members throughout the Indonesian region are still pinning their hope towards Prabowo Subianto`s candidacy in the 2019 presidential election.
Desmond claims that the possibility likely to happen following Prabowo’s statement during the party’s national meeting on April 2017 who mentioned about the age and health to compete in the election.

“The meeting minutes states Pak Prabowo will decide what will happen in the future,” he said at the parliamentary complex on Wednesday, March 28.
Desmond is certain that the outcome of the party’s 2018 national coordination meeting will end with a similar conclusion to the meeting held in 2017. He argues that Prabowo’s role as a kingmaker was proven after endorsing Joko Widodo and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in the regional head elections of 2012.

The same goes for Prabowo’s support for Anies Baswedan in the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election. “Prabowo is a great kingmaker,” said Desmond.
Gerindra Party will likely be supporting Prabowo Subianto as its presidential candidate in the 2019 election even though Prabowo has yet to declare his candidacy until now.
If Prabowo does run for the presidential candidate, he will yet again face the incumbent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and former rival candidate in the 2014 General Election.
