At Corruption Court, Setya Novanto Tells Judge He Has Diarrhea

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Setya Novanto told the panel of judges that he had diarrhea when asked about his identity in a trial session of the electronic ID cards (e-KTP) graft this morning.
“I have diarrhea, but I did not get any treatment by doctors,” Setya Novanto said today in a trial session at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta. Setya finally opened his mouth after a judge asked about his identity at the beginning of the trial session.
Irene, the prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), has denied Setya’s statement. She said that doctors at the KPK detention house were not aware of the purported illness. “The defendant complained of a cough and then be given cough medicine,” Irene said.

The prosecutor said that Setya Novanto had been examined by a doctor before being taken to the Corruption Court despite complaining of an illness. She also said that the defendant’s blood pressure was normal at around 110/80.
Judge Yanto also asked earlier asked about Setya’s identity. “Can you hear me?” judge Yanto asked. But the defendant remained silent.
The KPK detention house doctor Johannes Hutabarat confirmed that he had examined Setya. “Yes, your honor,” he said when asked whether he had examined the House Speaker. The doctor said that he examined the defendant this morning and could speak normally.
Setya Novanto is a suspect in a corruption case that caused Rp2.3 trillion in state losses. The e-KTP project was worth Rp5.84 trillion.
