TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two defendants in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft case Irman and Sugiharto will face their sentencing hearing today at the Corruption Court in Jakarta.

In the previous trial session, the public prosecutors of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sought seven and five-year jail sentences for Irman and Sugiharto. Both are deemed guilty of illegal behavior for personal enrichment, causing Rp2.3 trillion in state losses.

Aside from jail sentences, the prosecutors also seek Rp500 million in fines or a jail sentence of 6 months for Irman and Rp400 million in fines or a jail sentence of 6 months for Sugiharto.

In addition, the prosecutors told Irman to return 273,700 US dollars, 2.248 billion rupiah and 6,000 Singapore dollars and Sugiharto to return 500 million rupiahs to the state.

Irman said that the sentencing request was excessive. In his defense, he said that the amount of money he is ordered to return is too much. He added that he did not manage the money mentioned by the public prosecutors by himself.

Irman said that he has returned all the money he had received.

Meanwhile, Sugiharto expects the panel of judges to approve his request to become a justice collaborator. The former home affairs ministry official said that he had tried to help reveal other actors in the e-KTP graft case.
