On Monday, Wiranto announced the government's plan to disband and ban HTI, on grounds that the group's activities contradicted the Pancasila ideology and the 1945 Constitution.
Wiranto stressed that the decision does not mean that the government is against Islamic organizations.
"From what we have seen so far, HTI's activities have caused collisions and problems in society, threatening state security and public order. That's why we have decided that disbanding the organization is a step that needs to be taken," the former TNI Commander said.
