TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto said the government will disband mass organization Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia or HTI.
"Under numerous considerations and taking into account the public's aspirations, the government feels it is necessary to take strict legal measures to disband HTI," Wiranto said in Jakarta Monday, May 8.
Wiranto made the statement after meeting with Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, and National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian.
Wiranto stressed that the decision does not mean that the government is against Islamic organizations. The decision is aimed solely at maintaining the integrity and unity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) based on the Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
"From what we have seen so far, HTI's activities have caused collisions and problems in society, threatening state security and public order. That's why we have decided that disbanding the organization is a step that needs to be taken," said the former TNI Commander.
The authorities have rejected to allow HTI to hold several activities considered to be directed at implementing the Caliphate ruling system within Indonesia's political frameworks, which would disturb the community.
The National Police's Public Information Bureau head Brig. Gen. Rikwanto said the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs continues to dissect the Caliphate laws.
