TEMPO.CO, Depok - Director of Wahid Foundation, Yenny Wahid, revealed that 600,000 of 150 million Indonesian Muslim residents have been involved in radicalism act. In fact, 11 million of Indonesian Muslims have committed to be involved in radicalism acts.

“That is the data of potential socio-religious intolerance and acts of radicalism among Indonesian Muslims,” Yenny said during a talk show on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

The survey that was conducted together with Lingkar Survei Indonesia was designed to use a multi-stage random sampling with a 2.6 percent margin of error and a 95 percent confidence level. The sample consists of 1,200 respondents from 34 provinces in Indonesia.

The respondents consist of adults of at least over 17 years old and have not lost their voting right in an election. “The data was gathered in the fourth week of March 2016 and third week of April 2016,” She said.

Acts of radicalism in Indonesia can take the form of attacks against opposing religious belief, conduct a protest against the group that is considered as a threat to Islam’s sanctity. They also have planned to conduct a sweeping against locations that are considered to oppose the sharia law.

They also have admitted that they want to form a khilafah or an Islamic state in Indonesia.

However, the results of the survey reveal that Indonesia’s Muslim citizens as peaceful and tolerant, considering that 72 percent of respondents refused to conduct acts of radicalism. Meanwhile, 88.37 percent of respondents say that the public needs to have the freedom of embracing any type of religion.

The survey also showed that 65.35 percent agrees that the state must protect ideas that thrive in the public. As many as 82.3 percent stated that Pancasila and UUD (Constitution) already correspond with Indonesia, and 67.3 percent of respondents support democracy.

“The results show a high level of tolerance in order to uphold the The Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia as well as the importance of religion and democracy.”
