Hang Glider Missing While Flying, PON Athlete Come Back by Ojek

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Sumatran hang glider Rizalul Pathani experienced a minor incident on Sunday, September 18, when he lost contact with the 2016 National Sports Week (PON) organizing committe while competing in the open distance hang gliding in Batudua Cisitu, Sumedang District.
“Yes, Rizazul had problems with his radio receiver. Because he flew too high and weather-related problems,” PON’s hang gliding organizing committee member Imam Sofian told Tempo Sunday, September 18, 2016.
Rizazul lost contact for two hours. He took off at 2:30 PM and was found at around 5 PM. He landed in the bushes in Situraja, Sumedang District.
“He landed in the bushes in Situraja area. He was helped by locals and came back [to the venue] by ojek [motorcycle taxi],” he said.
Earlier, Rizazul contacted the organizing committee by radio. He told them that he had problems with his flying gear. He lost contact shortly after, Imam said. “He descended by parachute. It’s a common thing in hang gliding,” Imam said.
