TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leaders of Fajar Nusantara Movement (Gafatar) have been arrested by the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit on Wednesday. They are Ahmad Mushaddeq, Mahful Muis Tumanurung and Andri Cahya.

Agus Andrianto, Director for General Criminal Conduct of the Investigation Unit, has confirmed the report. “Yes, it’s true, we made arrests last light,” Agus told Tempo yesterday.

Agus said the arrests were made based on public report on January 14, 2016, in blasphemy case. Police had subsequently made investigations in six provinces in relation to Gafatar, namely in Central Java, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Banten, West Kalimantan and West Java. “Police have questioned 52 witnesses from the six provinces,” he said.

The investigation leads to the conclusion that they were not only accused of committing blasphemy, but also planned treason. The allegations are made since the police learned that the group have a state structure. “There is a structure that consists of a president, interior minister and other ministers,” he said.

Ahmad Mushaddeq played the role as the successor of Prophet Mohammed in the group. In that regard, he is charged with violating Article 155a and Article 156b of the Criminal Code on blasphemy with a maximum sentance of 5 years in prison.

Whereas Andri Cahya and Mahful Muis Tumanurung are charged with violating Article 110 paragraph 1 in conjunction with 107 paragraph 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code. They could face life sentence or 20 years imprisonment. Both have been accused of not only of committing blasphemy, but also treason. Andri Cahya is Ahmad Mushaddeq’s son and is Gafatar’s President.
