TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several students of Unversitas Indonesia (UI) successfully created two fuel-efficient cars in the Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) Asia held on March 3, to March 6, 2016 in Manila, Philippine. Two cars created by two teams of the students, the Nakoela and Sadewa team managed to win the Urban Concept Gasoline and Prototype Gasoline category.
For the Urban Concept Gasoline category, the Sadewa team created the 'Kalabia Evo 5', a car made out of carbon fiber composite that weighs only 75 kilograms and can travel 275 kilometers with one liter of fuel. Meanwhile, for the Prototype Gasoline category, the Nakoela team created the 'Keris RVII', a car made out of carbon fiber, aluminum, and honeycomb cores, and can travel 792 kilometers with one liter of fuel.
"We are proud to bring Indonesia’s name in this prestigious event and can learn a lot from other competitors from other Asian countries," said Willy Chandra, Chief of the Indonesian contingent for the event. Willy added that the team will continue to develop a more fuel-efficient and aerodynamic car later in the future.
Both the Sadewa and Nakoela team are part of UI's Supermilage Vehicle (UI-SMV), an automotive enthusiast community created by UI students.
