TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that Indonesian automotive industry has surpassed Thailand, especially in terms of the number of motor vehicles production.
"We have [made] a good achievement. Indonesia has surpassed Thailand as the largest manufacturing country in ASEAN. Our number is higher than Thailand's," said Vice President Kalla after opening the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2015 on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.
According to Kalla, the high number of production corresponds to the high number of Indonesia's population, which leads to high needs of various transportation methods.
Even though Indonesia still has less car vendors compared to Thailand, with high industrial capacity, new vendors are expected to come to Indonesia.
After opening the IIMS, Kalla praised the car exhibition and the development of technology and industry, as well as modern cars.
The government is also still committed to the use of environmentally friendly technology in automotive industry.
