Don't Rely On Natural Resources Exports: Zulkifli

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the People’s Representatives Council (MPR), Zulkifli Hasan, said that national development does not need to rely on raw resources export as it is prone to impact from global economy state.
“Indonesia has relied on raw resources export since the 90s," he said before the Annual Assembly on Friday, August 14. “Global economy breakdown will eventually hit domestic economy."
Zulkifli added that development concept needs to be altered to developing innovative industry, which is claimed to be able to improve state revenue. However, he said that human resources need to first master science and technology, in order to do so.
Morever, Zulkifli said that the government is expected to be able to improve land, sea, and air transportation. "We also have challenges in terms of food and energy stability," he said.
MPR’s Annual Assembly is held today at the parliament building. Zulkifli said that 470 councilmen out of 680 were present today. The assembly also saw President Joko Widodo addressing a state speech on state institutions’ progress.
