TEMPO.CO, Spielberg - Former world champions Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen walked away dazed but unscathed from a heavy crash at the start of the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Raikkonen initially seemed to cause the incident, which happened on the second turn of the first lap on the tricky Red Bull Ring track, as his Ferrari swerved left into the side of Alonso's McLaren chasing behind.
The impact lifted up Alonso's car, which then landed on top of Raikkonen's Ferrari as they scraped along the barriers for a few seconds.
When the cars came to rest, Alonso's mangled McLaren was perilously close to Raikkonen's open cockpit.
Remarkably, both drivers quickly jumped out, shook hands and leisurely strolled back to their respective garages.
It could have been much worse.
