TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said President Jokowi would inaugurate the Cikopo-Palimanan toll road on June 15, 2015—postponed from the initial plan on June 12.

“It’s been revised, so it will be done on June 15,” Basuki said before lawmakers of the House’s Commission V overseeing transportation and infrastructure on Wednesday in Jakarta.

Basuki said the inauguration of the country’s longest turnpike would be carried out three days after the president opened the Gempol-Pandaan toll road in East Java. The inauguration ceremony of the Cikopo-Palimanan toll road is slated to take place at the Cikopo toll gate.

“The president asked that the toll road be put into operation upon its inauguration,” he said.

According to the data from the National Police’s Traffic Corps, the operation of the 116 km toll road would reduce traffic volume on the Java’s northern coast route by 40 percent during the year’s Idul Fitri exodus.

Basuki guaranteed that the Idul Fitri homecoming trip this year would be smoother than last year in light of the launch of the new toll road.
