TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As the consequences to the suspension imposed to the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) by FIFA, Indonesia won’t be able to participate in any international football competitions. PSSI Secretary General Azwan Karim said that the sanction will also have impact on scheduled national football activities.
“For example, Indonesia’s role to host AFF U-19 Cup is likely to be annuled,” said Azwan who was in Switzerland when Tempo phoned on Saturday, May 30.
However, Indonesia can still continue its participation in SEA Games in June. Azwan claimed this was resulted from PSSI’s lobbying attempt in Switzerland.
According to Azwan, PSSI will immediately arrange a meeting with the government to report all decisions that have been taken by FIFA for Indonesia.
The decided sanction, however, semmed unable to change Indonesian government’s stance to continue freezing PSSI. President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo supports Sport Minister’s decision to freeze the national football governing body. He believes that total reformation is needed in the football organization, system, and management to improve Indonesia’s performance in international competitions.
