Four Japanese Companies Adding Investments in RI

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel said he was satisfied with the results of President Joko Widodo's visit to Japan last week. "At least four Japanese companies have stated their commitments to increase investment in Indonesia," Gobel said in a written statement Thursday, April 2.
The four companies are Toyota, Isuzu, Suzuki, and Epson.
"They are increasing investment to boost the exports of machinery and components, as well as strengthening Indonesia's capacity for the period of 2015 to 2017," said Gobel.
In his visit to Japan last week, Widodo and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to review the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) with the goal of improving and expanding trade and investment between the two countries.
Last year, the bilateral trade value between Indonesia and Japan reached US$40.1 billion with a trade surplus of US$ 6.1 billion for Indonesia.
Indonesia's exports to Japan in January 2015 stood at US$ 1.75 billion, a 9.63 percent year on year (yoy) decline. Meanwhile, Indonesia's imports from Japan for the same period reached US$1.17, down by 20.56 percent yoy.
As At the end of 2014, Japan's actual investment in Indonesia comprised of 1,374 projects worth US$2.7 billion in 2014.
