TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Meyritha Maryanie, the spokesperson of private water operator PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja), said her company would file an appeal against the fresh ruling of the Central Jakarta Court that terminated two cooperation ties between Palyja and city-owned water operator PT PAM Jaya in the provision of water services in the capital’s eastern and western parts.

Following the appeal request, the cooperation between both sides would proceed pending a fixed ruling from the Jakarta Provincial Court on the case.

Meyritha said her company was disappointed by the verdict. “These cooperation agreements have lasted for 17 years,” she said in a release Tempo received on Tuesday night, March 24, 2015.

Meyritha reiterated that Palyja would remain committed to providing clean water services professionally. “We want to help the Jakarta administration at the best we could,” she said.

The Central Jakarta Court announced Tuesday it favored the lawsuit filed by the Coalition of People against Jakarta Water Privatization against the President and Vice President of Indonesia, the Finance Minister, the Public Works Minister, the Jakarta Administration, the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), PT PAM Jaya, PT Palyja, and PT Aetra Air Jakarta.

Presiding judge Iim Nurokhim ruled that the defendants had violated procedures in the capital’s water management. The judge also annulled the cooperation involving PAM Jaya, Palyja and Aetra, which had lasted since 1997.
