TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM) said that the government is committed to ensure the continuity of investment in the water resources sector following Constitutional Court ruling that revokes Law No. 7/2004 on Water Resources last February.
"No need to panic. The BKPM and the government are preparing a new regulation as legal basis," said BKPM chief Franky Sibarani on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
He said that he had coordinated with other ministries like the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, and the Industry Ministry. Before issuing a new regulation, the government will impose a moratorium on new water permit and extension of expired permits.
According to Farah Indriani, deputy of investment climate development at the BKPM, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is currently promulgating a government regulation on the implementation of Law No. 11/1974 on Irrigation. The Constitutional Court declared that the Irrigation law, which was issued during the New Order era, would be re-enforced with the revocation of water resources law.
