TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) president director Ito Warsito said on Thursday, October 9, 2014, that the public should not fuss too much over the simmering political tension.
"Don't worry about it. What happened at the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) are just euphoria," he said.
Ito said he was optimistic that the economic condition will return to normal after the incoming government led by Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took office.
“The government must cooperate with the House, the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) and the people to run their programs,” Ito said.
Ito believes that the public should not fret about whether the 2015 state budget will be approved by the House.
“If the state budget is not approved, the House will face the people, because civil servants' salaries come from the state budget,” Ito explained.
Ito is also convinced that Jokowi’s inauguration will not be delayed as its procedures are stated clearly in the constitution.
As long as the president runs his programs as promised, Ito said, the House will not stand against the government.
“I’m sure that the president and the House will come to an agreement. Besides, the president has an exclusive authority to run his programs for the people,” Ito said.
