TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Transportation Bambang Susantono, said that Indonesian airlines are ready to face the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. "There will be preferences. At least our flight slots must be arranged as Red-White," he said on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
In order to rearrange existing slots, the ministry will ask suggestions from airlines, airport management companyAngkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II, as well as AirNav Indonesia. The government, together with all stakeholders, are hoping to improve the Indonesian aviation industry in the next five years. "We have to prioritize our national airlines," he said.
Bambang said that the ministry wanted to develop 237 airports in Indonesia, especially in Eastern Indonesian provinces and regencies. He hoped that every airport could serve as runway for specific types of airplanes depending on the region's economic potential. If the region experiences rapid development, jet planes could land on that airport.
"If the development is small, it can be developed further, so that propeller planes can land there,” said Bambang.
