TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) chief economist Juniman said the market is waiting for president-elect Joko Widodo’s announcement on names in his cabinet. “That's what the market is waiting for,” said Juniman on Tuesday.
Rupiah exchange rate could decline if market’s expectations on who take ministerial positions are not as expected. The announcement will become the answer whether they will withdraw their funds from Indonesia or not.
Juniman said government’s policies selected by each ministry more or less are affected by the profiles of the ministers. Ministries filled with professionals from political parties tend to cause possible conflict of interest in policy-making.
On the other hand, ministries filled with professionals can give confidence that they work for the country and act transparently without hidden interests. He said the new president may announce the names next month. Until then, investors will be anxiously waiting for it.
