TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Agung Kuswandono, director general of customs and excise, Ministry of Finance, said he would modify three stages of the customs checking at ports to shorten dwelling time. The checking stages to be modified are pre-clearance, customs clearance, and post-clearance.
According to Agung, for pre-clearance stage goods owners will now have to submit relevant documents before the goods arrive," he said yesterday.
In the custom clearance stage, the time is reduced to 0.8 days by cutting the time of hoarding goods.
To shorten dwelling time, Agung said, the Customs and Excise directorate is developing the use of information technology like in other countries. However, the system takes some time before it could be used. "We have to wait until the year-end," he said.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Chairul Tanjung had ordered the port authority to cut dwelling time at the Port of Tanjung Priok from seven days to just four days.
