TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arm wrestling in Indonesia is soon to be up lifted to a greater level, as the sport branch aims to fill in the National Sports Week (PON). National arm wrestling athlete James H. Anes told the press that the notion is being filed to the authorized committee.
Indonesia Arm Wresting Association and International Armwrestling Association (IAA) are struggling for national acknowledgment. They have been aiming to establish at least 20 arm wrestling regional administrations, which is a minimum requirement for PON enlistment.
James stated that ever since 2005, the sport has earned more appreciation from the society. In 2010, Indonesia broke through World's top five. Even more, Indonesia is to join Asia Pacific competition in Japan this summer. "Enthusiasm is building up," he said.
Andi Burhanuddin Solong from East Borneo Arm Wrestling Association added that the sport brings about not only sportsmanship, but also national peace mission. He mentioned that Balikpapan is soon to host International Arm Wrestling Competition, listing along some Malaysian athletes.
