Fifteen Airlines to Operate in Kualanamu Airport

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry stated that there will be 15 airlines operating at the Kualanamu Airport. "Nine of them are national airlines," said Djoko Murjatmodjo, Director of the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Minitry in his office on Monday, July 22.
The nine national airlines include Susi Air, Wings Air, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air, Sky Aviation, AirAsia Indonesia, Mandala Airlines, and Citilink Indonesia. Meanwhile six other international airlines that will serve flights to and from Kualanamu Airport include the Mihin Lanka Airlines (Sri Lanka), Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia Berhad, Firefly Airlines (Malaysia), Silk Air, and Singapore Airlines.
The Transportation Ministry has set a date for the new airport's operation on July 25. The Kualanamu International Airport will replace Polonia International Airport, Medan. The Ministry's Air Transport Director General Herry Bakti Singayuda Gumay said that the Polonia International Airport is technically unfit for further development due to land limitations.
