TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) on September 1 to 3, 2024, Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono together with the Health Center, inspected the preparation for monkeypox (Mpox) screening at the international arrival gate of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
"Today (Wednesday) I came to Ngurah Rai Airport to check the preparation of health screening for Mpox ahead of the Indonesia-Africa Forum," said Dante as quoted from a press release on Thursday.
The Mpox screening is carried out to avoid an outbreak. Dante also determined the scenario for the screening process, from the screening management to hospital referral for passengers confirmed with Mpox.
"Together with the Health Quarantine Center, we determined the screening scenario, starting from the placement of screening equipment, PCR rooms, and questionnaires to the referral process to the hospital," said Dante.
According to Dante, the Mpox screening process starts from the international arrival terminal. All passengers will first go through a thermal scanner. For those with a body temperature over 37.5 degrees Celsius, a re-examination will be carried out using a thermal gun.
If the body temperature remains high, said Dante, passengers will be directed to the examination room to take a swab sample. If the examination results show positive for Mpox, passengers will be immediately referred to the hospital.
"The same goes for evacuation routes. If a positive case occurs, we will immediately evacuate the patients to the local hospital," said Dante.
In addition to the Mpox screening preparation, the Ministry of Health has installed information regarding Mpox awareness and prevention on digital screens at the international arrival terminals of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
Previously, the Ministry of Health reported a spike in confirmed Mpox cases in Indonesia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a PHEIC (Public Health Emergency of International Concern) status for the Mpox outbreak.
