TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held his final plenary cabinet meeting at Garuda Palace, in Nusantara, the new capital of Indonesia in East Kalimantan, on Friday, September 13, 2024.
During the session, attended by all members of the Indonesia Maju Cabinet, Jokowi expressed his gratitude and shared several important messages regarding the ministers' performance.
"My deepest gratitude goes to all of you for your hard work and dedication in carrying out government duties, implementing the programs, and realizing the vision of the president and vice president while facing various challenges," said Jokowi in Nusantara.
The President also extended an apology to the ministers and heads of state institutions for any shortcomings during his 10-year tenure as President. Jokowi’s term, along with the Indonesia Maju Cabinet, will conclude on October 20, 2024, following the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
"If there were interactions or actions that may have been unsatisfactory or fell short, I sincerely apologize," he said.
In addition to his thanks, Jokowi delivered several key messages during his last cabinet meeting. Here is a summary of those points:
Complete the Current Work Programs
Jokowi's first message emphasized the importance of completing all key work programs in the final month of his administration. "Ensure that all main work programs initiated are completed, including spending, administrative accountability, and unresolved issues," he stated.
He also called for full support from his cabinet for the programs of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, ensuring a smooth transition of government.
"We must fully support the president-elect's programs and ensure that the transition is effective," said Jokowi. He further urged the cabinet to quickly establish any regulations or policies required to facilitate the transition.
"If policy formulation is necessary, it must be done swiftly, particularly for the key programs of the president-elect," he added.
Maintain Stability in Development
Jokowi also stressed the importance of maintaining stability to ensure continued development. "We need stability to grow and to build, so make sure there are no disruptions until the next government is established," he warned.
He urged the ministers to maintain public purchasing power, economic growth, security, and order, while avoiding extreme policies that could negatively impact the general public.
"We must safeguard public purchasing power, control inflation, support growth, maintain security, and refrain from implementing extreme policies, especially those that affect the livelihoods of many and could cause unrest," the President stated.
