TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prospective Jakarta gubernatorial candidates, Ridwan Kamil and his running mate Suswono, arrived at the Jakarta Elections Commission (KPU) office in Salemba, Central Jakarta, to register their candidacy for the 2024 Regional Election.
Dressed in matching white koko shirts, batik pangsi pants, and black cap or peci, Ridwan Kamil and Suswono were accompanied by their supporters from the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM Plus). Ridwan Kamil's wife, Atalia Praratya, was also present.
The pair entered the Jakarta KPU area at approximately 13:48, where they were greeted by KPU officials with flower garlands.
Rany Maulani, Secretary of the Gerindra Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPD), delivered a speech on behalf of the campaign team and supporting political parties. She announced the candidacy of Ridwan Kamil and Suswono, noting that they were accompanied by representatives from 15 members of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition or KIM Plus.
Among the representatives present were the Chairman of the Golkar Jakarta DPD Ahmed Zaki Iskandar, Mujiono from the Democratic Party, Wibi Andrino from the NasDem Party, Hasbiallah Ilyas from PKB, and representatives from the Gelora Party, Perindo, and others.
Rany mentioned that there was a brief disruption during the registration process due to jostling among supporters.
Ridwan Kamil emphasized that the 15 representatives of the KIM Plus political parties shared a common goal of building Indonesia through Jakarta. He also introduced the pair's campaign name, "Rido", an abbreviation of Ridwan-Suswono.
According to him, the abbreviation was agreed upon by all parties and would be used for campaign materials and socialization. He expressed hope that the registration process would proceed smoothly, allowing for the continuation of the electoral process.
