TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi leads the final Cabinet Meeting for Onward Indonesia Cabinet 2019-2024 at Garuda Palace, Nusantara Capital City (IKN) on Friday, September 13, 2024. Jokowi takes the opportunity to extend his gratitude to his ministers.
“My utmost gratitude to your hard work and dedication to running the government and implementing the programs and visions of the president and vice president while facing various challenges,” Jokowi said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s live broadcast.
Around 34 of the president’s aides previously confirmed to attend the plenary meeting in IKN. In his opening speech, President Jokowi greeted Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, and the Head of the National Intelligence Agency Budi Gunawan.
In his briefing, Jokowi requests the ministers to complete their priority programs in the last month of their working period, concerning absorption and administrative accountability. “Including unresolved problems,” he said, without elaborating further.
In general, Jokowi stresses the importance of a smooth transition to the next government, which President-elect Prabowo Subianto sets to lead.
The Cabinet Secretary, Pramono Anung, said in an Instagram post that the Coordinating Ministers are also given the opportunity to report and represent their respective ministry to “provide a memory for the new government.”
Jokowi also apologizes to the ministers and heads of governmental agencies who were present during Jokowi’s 10-year run. He will end his term on October 20, after the presidential inauguration of Prabowo Subianto.
“Once again, I apologize wholeheartedly for any discomfort during our interactions and if there are things that were lacking,” he said.
Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka did not form a special team to transition into their government, contrary to Joko Widodo in 2014.
However, Jokowi accommodated many of Prabowo's interests in the current government transition process. For example, Jokowi appointed a number of Prabowo loyalists such as Thomas Djiwandono, Supratman Andi Agtas, and Sudaryono to first "intern" in the current government cabinet. Prabowo and Gibran, Jokowi's son, also vowed to carry on with current government programs.
