Jakarta Election: Two Gubernatorial Pair Register Today, Joint Personnel Guard KPU Building

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) is crowded on the second day of the regional head election candidates’ registration period today, Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Police and military personnel are seen guarding the area.
The registration period for regional candidates to run in the regional head elections opens from August 27 to 29, 2024.
The chief of Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro said 1,291 joint personnel guarded Jakarta KPU. “(Jakarta Police with Jakarta KPU, Central Jakarta Police, Metro Jaya Police Department, and Kodam Jaya are on standby since morning to handle the crowd,” Susatyo said.
The police also diverted the traffic to anticipate the supporters of prospective candidates today. “Two lanes of road in front of Jakarta KPU will be used for the supporters of regional head candidates and half of the vehicles will be placed on the busway lane to avoid congestion on the Salemba route,” he said.
Susatyo hoped the crowd would disperse after the first prospective candidate pair completed their registration process to reduce traffic congestion.
Prospective candidate pair Ridan Kamil and Suswono reportedly would register in the Jakarta gubernatorial election this afternoon. The recently declared Pramono Anung-Rano Karno pair from PDIP also registers today at 11:00 a.m. Jakarta time.
