TEMPO.CO, JakartaAs many as 86,000 Catholics will attend Pope Francis-led mass at GBK Stadium, Jakarta on September 5, 2024.

"The mass is planned for one and a half hours with 86,000 pilgrims," said the Spokesperson for the Committee for Pope Francis' Visit to Indonesia, Father Thomas Ulun Ismoyo in an online talk show on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Thomas explained that the grand mass will be held in two stadiums; the GBK Main Stadium with a capacity of 60,000 people and the Madya Stadium which can accommodate 26,000 people.

Upon arrival at GBK, Pope Francis will greet the attending pilgrims at the two stadiums. The Pope will also lead a worship and joint prayer at GBK.

"During joint prayer, one of the first messages conveyed will be how we can continue to spread God’s love here in Indonesia,” said Thomas.

Catholic pilgrims who cannot attend the grand mass in person at GBK are accommodated with an online broadcast of the service. Thomas urged attending pilgrims to follow the activities in an orderly manner and follow all instructions made by the organizers.

It is known that the head of the World Catholic Church, Pope Francis, will make an apostolic journey to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore on September 2-13, 2024.

Indonesia will be the first stop in Pope Francis’ visit to the Asia Pacific region from September 3 to 6, 2024.

The Pope will continue his visit to Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and Vanimo from September 6-9, 2024, Dili (Timor Leste) from September 9-11, 2024, and Singapore from September 11-13, 2024.

Pope Francis is scheduled to meet President Joko Widodo on September 4 at Merdeka Palace. Pope Francis will attend an interfaith meeting at Istiqlal Mosque the next day followed by a meeting with beneficiaries of charitable organizations at the Office of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI).
