TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor and Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, has advised the public to work from home (WFH) during Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, early next month. The Pope's itinerary in the Senayan area will coincide with international activities at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
Heru explained that the Pope's visit on September 5 aligns with the International Sustainability Forum at the JCC, which will be attended by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. Simultaneously, Pope Francis will preside over a Grand Mass at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex in Senayan. Given the proximity of these two locations, WFH is recommended to mitigate traffic congestion.
The Grand Mass at GBK is expected to draw around 90,000 Catholics from across Indonesia, who will begin arriving in Senayan at 12:00 p.m. Jakarta time. Meanwhile, the International Sustainability Forum will commence at 9:00 a.m.
“We hope that the public can consider this and take appropriate measures, such as working from home independently,” said Heru at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 26, 2024.
He acknowledged the large number of attendees for the Grand Mass and indicated that their arrival in Jakarta will be regulated. “Congregations from various regions will be arriving. Therefore, we have implemented regulations and will likely provide a map of diversion routes later," said Heru.
According to the plan, Pope Francis will arrive in Indonesia on September 3. The following day, President Jokowi will receive the Pope at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
Head of State Protocol, Andy Rachmianto, stated that the government will prepare an official state ceremony to welcome the Pope before Jokowi officially receives him at the Merdeka Palace.
