TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  If you're planning a trip to Singapore, make sure you set aside some time to explore Little India. As the name suggests, this area is a vibrant center of Indian culture in Singapore.

From the aromatic food to the rich history, this area is a must-visit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Indian culture. As a guide, here are some things you can do while in Little India Singapore, as collected from various sources.

Things to Do in Little India

1. Explore the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple

The first thing you can do is visit the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. Located at 141 Serangoon Road, it is one of the oldest temples in Singapore and became the center of early Indian social and cultural activities, according to the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple's official website.

Dedicated to the goddess Kali, a powerful goddess and destroyer of evil, the temple is a spiritual hub and a symbol of Singapore's Indian heritage. The intricate carvings and vibrant colors make it a must-see attraction.

2. Learn History at the Indian Heritage Center

If you want to know the history of Indians in Singapore, consider paying a visit to the Indian Heritage Centre. Located at 5 Campbell Lane, Singapore 209924, the museum showcases the journey of the Indian community, particularly through awe-inspiring artifacts.

Not to mention, according to indianheritage.gov.sg, you will also see a collage of photographs of former Singapore President SR Nathan, as well as the iconic Framroz aerated water soda bottles. It's a great way to get a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of Little India.

3. Visit the House of Tan Teng Niah

The former house of Tan Teng Niah is a tangible reminder of the Chinese influence in Little India. The page roots.gov.sg noted that it is the last surviving Chinese villa in the area.

This house used to be the residence of Tan Teng Niah, a Chinese businessman who owned several sweet-making factories. You can find many Instagrammable spots to take a photo around this two-story building.

4. Enjoy the Beauty of Abdul Gafoor Mosque

Abdul Gafoor Mosque was erected in the mid-1800s to fulfill the spiritual needs of Tamil Muslim immigrants from South India, as stated in roots.gov.sg. From this building, you will witness the combination of Saracenic and Neoclassical elements. You can find the Abdul Gafoor Mosque at 41 Dunlop Street, Singapore 209369.
