Bekasi Police Arrest Eight Suspects Linked to Malaysian Drug Network

TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The Bekasi Metro Police have apprehended eight individuals connected to a Malaysian drug syndicate operating in Bekasi Regency. Bekasi Metro Police Chief Senior Commissioner Twedi Aditya Bennyahdi said they are facing life imprisonment for their involvement in narcotics trafficking.
The suspects have been charged under Article 114 paragraph 2, subsidiary to Article 111 paragraph 2, of the Narcotics Law, and Article 345 in conjunction with Article 138 paragraph 2 of the Health Law. “The punishment is 6 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment,” Twedi told reporters, Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
The arrested individuals are identified only by their initials: K, MJ, FF, H, HE, AW, JA, and S. Twedi added that there is still one additional suspect included in the police’s wanted list who is allegedly in Malaysia and the mastermind of the operation.
He explained that the arrest followed the disclosure of nine narcotics cases from July 3, 2024, to August 8, 2024. This case was finally revealed from a report from residents regarding the distribution of narcotics. “The Head of the Narcotics Unit team conducted development, investigation, and successfully secured Mr. JA,” he said.
The police seized 529.87 grams of marijuana, 212.14 grams of methamphetamine, 288.8 grams of synthetic drugs, 455 grams of synthetic drug seeds, 406 grams of ketamine, and 5,808 ecstasy pills during the arrests. Additionally, police confiscated one motorcycle, eleven mobile phones, and five electronic scales.
The total estimated value of the seized drugs is Rp7.073 billion. The Bekasi Metro Police believed this operation has saved approximately 36,152 lives.
