With their highly sensitive sense of smell, mice and rats tend to avoid certain scents that may bother them. Below is a list of odors that mice and rats don't like to help keep homes rodent-free.
- Soursop leaves
Soursop leaves have a distinctive and rather strong odor. Rats and mice don't like this smell because it can irritate the rat's sense of smell. To use soursop leaves as a rodent repellent, take a bunch of fresh leaves, crush them, and place them in areas frequented by mice, such as corners of rooms or near their entry points.
- Durian peel
Durian is world famous for having a very strong and putrid odor, and the skin is no exception. The stench of durian skin is considered very annoying to rats because of its intensity and uniqueness. Place dried durian skin around the area you want to protect from mice.
- Peppermint Oil

- Garlic

- Vinegar
Vinegar is a kitchen ingredient that has a strong, sour smell that mice and rats don't like. To use vinegar as a repellent, mix white vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio, then spray this solution on areas where mice frequently pass. You can also soak cotton balls in vinegar and place them in strategic locations.
- Chili powder
Red chili powder has a spicy aroma and flavor that repels mice and rats. Sprinkle chili powder in areas frequented by mice or around holes and crevices where they can enter the home. Be careful not to get chili powder in the eye or on the skin.
- Camphor
Camphor is known to be effective in repelling mice because of its pungent odor. To prevent mice and rats from entering your home, try placing several camphor balls in places such as closets, storage areas, or under the sink. The rodents will feel uncomfortable and stay away because of the strong smell of camphor.
- Cinnamon
Cinnamon has a strong, warm aroma that rodents dislike. Sprinkle cinnamon powder around areas where mice may nest, or mix cinnamon powder with water and spray the solution in areas frequented by mice and rats.
