Indonesian Govt Launches SIMBARA for Nickel, Tin Tracking System

22 July 2024 12:19 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaSeveral cabinet members of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi were present to inaugurate the expansion of the Mineral and Coal Information System or SIMBARA. The integrated online tracking system now covers nickel and tin commodities.

The cabinet members were Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan; Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati; Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif; and Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.

Sri Mulyani said that synergy is necessary while managing natural resources. "We launched SIMBARA for coal in 2020, and now we are expanding it to nickel and tin commodities," she said on Monday, July 22, 2024.

SIMBARA was originally created as a system that integrates all coal commodity management from upstream to downstream in one ecosystem. The aim is to produce single mineral and coal data and integrated monitoring to run the business smoothly and encourage state revenues.

"SIMBARA is not just an information system, but an upstream to downstream mining business integration involving five ministries," Minister Arifin Tasrif said

Arifin explained that several data collection systems belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources have been integrated with SIMBARA since October 2023. Some of them are the Mineral Online Monitoring System (MOMS), Minerba One Data Indonesia (MODI), and Minerba One Map Indonesia (MOMI).

By utilizing SIMBARA, it is hoped that state revenues can be optimized and provide effective business supervision. It is expected that SIMBARA will be expanded further to other commodities such as gold, bauxite, and crude palm oil or CPO in the future.
