TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the TNI Information Center or Kapuspen, Maj. Gen. Nugraha Gumilar, said the recruitment for military cyber soldiers was still in the planning stage. This plan was conveyed by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto following the hacking of TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency or BAIS data at the end of June 2024.

"It's still in the planning stage," Nugraha told Tempo when contacted on Friday, July 12, 2024.

He said there is no certainty when recruitment for TNI cyber soldiers will open. However, he is aiming for a selection process for military cyber soldiers in the near future.

According to Nugraha, the TNI continues to improve its cyber capabilities and has its own IT and cyber training for its soldiers.

Right now, he said, the TNI has a scientific study program on cybersecurity at the Diploma 4 level at the Army Polytechnic or Poltekad Kodiklatad. "This is specifically for soldiers who seek expertise in the cyber field," he said.

Nugraha said this training has been going on for two years. In the 2025-2026 academic year, he said, Poltekad Kodiklatad will graduate the first batch of the study program. "There are 20 people in each class, of course after graduation they are expected to serve in the cyber field," he said.

TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto said earlier that the opportunities for applicants to join the TNI cyber unit would no longer be limited to Bintara, Tamtawa or non-commissioned officers. He said people with IT backgrounds could also apply.
