TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commemorating Racial and Religious Harmony Month, Harmony Fest! 2024 is back for its second iteration on July 6 to 7, 2024, from 9:30am to 4:30pm at the OCBC Square at Singapore Sports Hub and it’s free admission for all.
According to the press release received by Tempo, this year’s theme for the Harmony Fest! will be "It Begins With #YOUnity" which embodies the core values of promoting racial and religious harmony in Singapore.
Mr Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law, will be attending on 6 July as its guest of honour.
Organised by Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) and the Racial and Religious Harmony Circle, this event is expected to draw about 34,500 participants.
The aim this year is to bring individuals from all walks of life together through exciting games, cultural performances, and captivating exhibitions.
Harmony Fest! organisers have organised its space into four colour-coded zones, each meant to celebrate a key value in fostering racial and religious harmony, these are Trust, Respect, Cooperation, and Harmony.
These values, which have been instrumental in preserving Singapore’s racial and religious harmony over the years, are integrated into the event's lineup of activities. Participants will get to engage in experiences designed to strengthen relationships and deepen understanding of cultural diversity, all in one inclusive hub.
For those seeking an immersive experience, there are esports, an interactive game centered around ethnic peace, and an augmented reality and virtual reality experience available.
Tryouts for dragon boats, an art truck, a display featuring the many wedding traditions of various ethnic groups, and a class on lion dancing are among the other events.
This year, those with disabilities will also have the chance to participate in parasports like powerchair football and boccia.
Additionally, it's to spread the word that people with disabilities may lead active, healthy lifestyles and participate in sports.
Enchanting performances by the several ethnic groups will also take place, such as a Malay traditional dance and musical, an Indian folk art show, and a Chinese percussion ensemble.
One of the co-leads of the Harmony Circle Organizing Committee for Harmony Fest!, Mr. Chandramohan Maruthan, stated that working with diverse teams has expanded his understanding of many cultures and reaffirmed the value of inclusivity.
According to him, the occasion "offers a forum for community interaction, enabling participants to appreciate the various cultures within our society."
