Anies Baswedan Has Not Yet Discussed Deputy Governor Candidate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Potential Jakarta governor candidate Anies Baswedan said that he is currently in intensive communication with the PDIP regarding plans to run for the Jakarta regional head election. However, Anies said there has been no discussion with the party about the deputy governor candidate who will be his running mate.

"The communication with PDI Perjuangan friends is intense and we really appreciate the trust expressed," Anies said, quoted from a video statement of the Anies team on Friday, June 14, 2024. Anies said he will continue to go through the whole discussion process with the parties regarding the coalition that will support him.

On the other hand, Anies stated that many names are currently being mentioned as potential partners. However, he said that there has been no discussion at all about these possibilities, including with the PDIP.

For this reason, Anies asked that there be no speculation about the name of the person who would accompany him. "Therefore, there is no need to talk about name A, name B, name C, there has been no discussion at all," he said.

Earlier, PDIP politician Guntur Romli said his party had opened the possibility of supporting non-cadre gubernatorial candidates to run in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. However, Guntur also stressed that the place for deputy gubernatorial candidates must come from his party's cadres.

"PDI Perjuangan is not closed if it has to nominate another candidate for governor, but the candidate for deputy governor is from PDI Perjuangan," Guntur said in his written message to Tempo on Monday, June 10, 2024.

Guntur said that if he had to nominate a non-cadre gubernatorial candidate, there were two figures of interest to his party, namely former West Java governor Ridwan Kamil and former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan.

Even so, Guntur said, the PDIP was still prioritizing its cadres to become gubernatorial candidates in the Jakarta gubernatorial election. "There are names like Ibu Risma (Tri Rismaharini), Pak Andika (Andika Perkasa), Pak Pramono Anung, Mas Charles Honoris, Bang Pras (Prasetyo Edi Marsudi). Including Rano Karno," Guntur said.

The 2024 regional election will be held simultaneously on November 27, 2024. The registration of pairs of candidates is scheduled for August 24-26.
