TEMPO.CO, JakartaDirector of Special Tourism at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Itok Parikesit, said his team was ready to support the development of cruise ship tourism in the country. He believes cruise ship tourism in Jakarta can positively affect the number of tourists entering Indonesia and boost the rupiah exchange rate.

Itok said on Sunday that the launch of Resorts World One at Tanjung Priok Harbor not only solidifies its port status but also makes Tanjung Priok an “investment center and tourist destination.”

He also believes that luxury accommodations and facilities on cruise ships will attract a new segment of passengers from within and outside the country.

In addition to the ministry, it is said that Pelindo also anticipates the rising interest in cruise ships in Indonesia. Pelindo's Director of Commercial and Engineering, Ruri Rachmaputri, agrees that public interest in cruise ships is increasing. "Apart from Jakarta, there are 20 ports in Indonesia that are ready to become entry points for cruise ships," said Ruri.

Those include ports in Labuan Bajo, Medan, and Jakarta. "Hopefully more tourists will come as more tours are offered.  We also hope more locals will get used to cruise ship tourism," he said.

Ruri said cruise ship ports are quite different from regular ports. There are several facilities that Pelindo must prepare for cruise ship ports. "We will prepare the infrastructure. Cruise ships generally require a waiting lounge for passengers, a boarding bridge, and several other things," said Ruri.

Resorts World Cruises departs the Resorts World One cruise ship from Jakarta on June 16, 2024, at 09:00 p.m. local time. This cruise ship offers four roundtrips across Singapore - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for 6 days and 5 nights on June 16, 21, and 26, as well as July 2, 2024.
