TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), Budi Arie Setiadi, spoke about the viral application said to replace X (formerly Twitter), Elaelo. He confirmed the government has not prepared any replacement for X.
The viral Elaelo application appeared after the government expressed its rejection of X's social media policy allowing free distribution of pornographic content.
“I don't know who threw the bait (for Elaelo), but the government has no plans to make a replacement application for X thus far," said Budi Arie to Tempo via short message on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
The Elaelo application explicitly stated that the Kominfo Ministry made its server. The application also includes the symbol of the Garuda bird, accompanied by Mars Pancasila music.
The server for the Elaelo application appears to be flawed at the time, and instances of login failure are often detected.
The Kominfo Minister previously said the government would block access to X's social media in Indonesia if it still displays pornographic content. Budi claimed to have sent a letter to the platform.
"Regarding the pornography on X, I have written to them that X will be blocked if the pornographic content is allowed in Indonesia,” he said on June 10. There has been no response from X regarding the warning.
