1. Tokopedia Mass Layoffs Happened Due to Dependence on Investors, Observer Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Labor observer from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Tadjudin Nur Effendi analyzed the occurrence of mass layoffs in the Indonesian e-commerce company Tokopedia. According to him, one indication of the mass layoffs of 450 employees of the local market company was due to dependence on investors.

“They did not carry out this internal restructuring which caused them to face difficulties. These workers need to be careful in facing similar situations, first of all, they need to be aware of financial instability. "That can't be done, the company relies on investors," he said when contacted, on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

3. Indonesia Committed to Strengthen Cooperation with Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Robert Floyd and Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg in Vienna, Austria, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. For Retno, this meeting is highly critical as the world’s growing uncertainty could prompt conflicts and wars at any given time.

CTBT (Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty) prohibits nuclear tests. The provisions state that CTBT will come into force if the countries in Annex II of the treaty have ratified it.

Annex II countries are those involved in the negotiation process of CTBT from 1994 to 1996 at the Conference on Disarmament or countries that once had and still have nuclear weapons and large-capacity nuclear reactors.
