TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar Airways was named the world's best airline at the 2024 Skytrax World Airline Awards held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Fairmont Windsor Park, near London's Heathrow Airport. The Qatar-based airline dethroned Singapore Airlines, dubbed the best airline in 2023.
This year’s award marks Qatar Airways’ eighth time as the “Airline of the Year” in 25 years. In 2023, they ranked second for the quality of service offered to passengers with their modern fleet.
Commenting on this achievement, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer stated that it was a proud moment for Qatar Airways.
"This award is a testimony to our relentless commitment to providing unparalleled service and innovation. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers with the highest level of excellence," he said, as quoted from the official Qatar Airways website on June 26.
Best Business Class
In addition to being named the world’s best airline in 2024, Qatar Airways also won the top awards for World's Best Business Class, World's Best Business Class Airline Lounge, and Best Airline in the Middle East.
The Middle Eastern airline has built a strong reputation over the past decade, helping award-winning Hamad International Airport as a global aviation hub, rivaling Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Singapore Airlines Ranked 2nd
Qatar's victory means Singapore Airlines is down one spot from last year. The five-time winner also received the awards for World's Best Cabin Staff, Best First Class Service, and Best Airline in Asia.
UK-based Skytrax said the vote was compiled from a survey of more than 21 million customers from 100 countries and around 350 airlines.
The remainder of the top 10 was yet again devoid of North American airlines, with Dubai's Emirates in third, Japan's ANA All Nippon Airways in fourth, Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific in fifth, Japan Airlines in sixth, Turkish Airlines ranked seventh, and Taiwan’s EVA Air is eighth, Air France is ninth, and Swiss International Airlines is 10th.
Garuda Indonesia Ranked 34th
Indonesian airline Garuda Indonesia is ranked 34th on Skytrax's World's Top 100 Airlines 2024 list, down four spots from the airline’s 2023 position. Last year, Garuda Indonesia also won The World's Best Airline Cabin Crew 2023.
