Jokowi to Attend Pancasila Day Commemoration in Riau

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - This year's Pancasila Day Commemoration will be held in Dumai, Riau on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Garuda Pertamina Hulu Rokan Block complex. The head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), Yudian Wahyudi, explained that the celebration of Pancasila Day is no longer centered in Jakarta, but has been rotating with other regions since 2022.
“So, it was Ende City in 2022, where Bung Karno (Sukarno, Indonesia’s first president) reflected on the five points of Pancasila,” said Yudian on Thursday, May 30 in Riau. "The second one was held in Jakarta, and now in Riau.”
Yudian explained the presence of BPIP and President Joko Widodo or Jokowi in Dumai is expected to remind people that Pancasila is a symbol of liberation, especially in the context of economy and dependence on foreign entities. This refers to Pertamina’s successful management of the Rokan Block.
“Pancasila is about eliminating colonialism from the face of the earth. But here, independence has not been fully achieved, especially concerning oil and gas," he added.
Meanwhile, BPIP Principal Secretary Tonny Agung Arifianto emphasized the importance of the Rokan Block from an economic perspective under Bung Karno's Trisakti which emphasizes political sovereignty, economic independence, and cultural diversity.
"Pertamina's transfer of management of the Rokan Block is in line with the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution which states that Indonesia's natural wealth must be managed for the nation's prosperity," he said, noting the transfer of management from Chevron to Pertamina.
Nearly 1045 participants will attend the commemoration event in Dumai. Jokowi is also slated to attend along with all ministries and government institutions, including regional governments, Pertamina, and civil servants in Riau Province and Dumai City. Tonny detailed that 34 ministers had been invited, but only 17 had confirmed their attendance.
