Prabowo-Gibran's Supporters to Stage Protest at Constitutional Court Building This Friday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around a hundred thousand supporters of Prabowo-Gibran will reportedly stage a protest at the Constitutional Court or MK Building on Friday, April 19, 2024. Commander of the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team volunteer department Haris Rusli Mouti said this protest is a response to various accusations, insults, and harassment to the voters of the running pair.

"As if 96.2 million people voted for Prabowo-Gibran because they were bribed with social assistance," he said in Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

He emphasized that the 96.2 million votes Prabowo-Gibran garnered were achieved through a democratic process. His side also rejected accusations that the pair’s electoral victory was due to staged intervention in the form of social assistance.

"We always try to cool the atmosphere and urge all supporters of Prabowo-Gibran to obey the ongoing legal and constitutional processes, without pressure from mass movements," he emphasized.

Haris also urged Prabowo-Gibran supporters to protest peacefully and be vigilant of any attempt to trigger horizontal conflicts.

Apart from the mass protest, Haris invited Prabowo-Gibran's supporters and voters to submit mass amicus curiae or “friends of the court”.

"We also invite all supporters and voters of Prabowo-Gibran to submit amicus curiae en masse to the Constitutional Court. Currently, we are at around 10,000 participants,” said Haris.

The Constitutional Court had previously received amicus curiae from various parties, including PDIP Head Megawati Soekarnoputri. The letter was sent via PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.

Hasto showed and read Megawati's handwriting on the back of the letter during his submission. "Dear Indonesian people, let us pray that the Constitutional Court's gavel is not a sledgehammer, but a golden one. As Kartini said in 1911: "After darkness, comes light", so that the dawn of democracy that we have fought for long ago will rise again and be remembered by generations of Indonesians," Hasto said, reading Megawati's writing.
