Top 10 Most Corrupt Countries in the World by Transparency International

18 April 2024 10:35 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTransparency International released the results of its 2023 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The CPI score report ranks 180 countries in the world based on public perception regarding corruption in public and political positions.

A country with a higher Corruption Perception Index, such as 100, means that a country's perception of corruption is low. Meanwhile, the smaller it gets to 0, the more corrupt the countries in the list.

According to transparency.org.au, currently, the world is experiencing a decline in the functioning of the justice system. This CPI report highlights a clear connection between access to justice and corruption.

Quoted from ti.or.id, the CPI report illustrates that many countries still exert little effort to eradicate corruption in the public sector, evidenced by the minimal change to the global CPI average at 43. More than 2/3 of the countries surveyed below a score of 50—a sign that corruption is a serious problem for most countries.

Quoted from indiatvnews.com, both authoritarian regimes and democratic leaders who undermine justice contribute to increasing impunity for corruption, and in some cases, even encourage it by eliminating consequences for wrongdoers.

The following is a list of the most corrupt countries in the world according to Transparency International.

1. Somalia

This country from the African continent is ranked first as the most corrupt country in the world. It scored 11 at the CPI index out of the maximum score of 100.
