TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto on his victory in the 2024 presidential election in a phone call. Erdogan Prabowo also exchanged Eid al-Fitr greetings during the call.
Prabowo shared moments of conversation with Erdogan via his personal Instagram account @prabowo on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. In the post he uploaded, Prabowo, wearing brown batik, was seen holding a telephone in his office.
"It is a great honor for me to receive a congratulatory call from the President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the result of the Indonesian Presidential election," Prabowo wrote in the caption.
Meanwhile, the General Election Commission, or KPU, has announced Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the winners of the 2024 presidential election. However, the pair has yet to be officially declared as winners as the election dispute hearing is still ongoing at the Constitutional Court.
Prabowo said that Türkiye is a great friend to Indonesia. He also believed that the friendship would continue to flourish into the future.
"We are committed to continue and to strengthen the bilateral relations between our two nations," said Pabowo.
Meanwhile, the Turkish presidency's X social media account @trpresidency, confirmed the conversation. Through an upload on Monday, April 8, 2024, the Turkish Presidency said that the telephone conversation addressed the relations between Türkiye and Indonesia and global developments.
The post stated that Erdogan congratulated Indonesian president-elect Prabowo Subianto on his victory in the election. Erdogan expected the deep-rooted relations between Türkiye and Indonesia will become stronger in the new era.
Erdogan also hoped that cooperation between the two countries would advance in every field, especially in the fields of defense industry, military, as well as trade and finance.
Erdogan also emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation with Indonesia in the Palestinian cause and also on all issues related to the Islamic world. Erdogan emphasized that the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council formed between the two countries must be held “at the earliest convenience”.
