TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast that the weather in Greater Bandung on the day of Eid al-Fitr will be partly cloudy. "There is potential for a drizzle in the afternoon or evening," said the Head of the Bandung BMKG Geophysics Station, Teguh Rahayu on Monday, April 8.
Referring to BMKG records, the air temperature in the Greater Bandung area is around 20 to 31 degrees Celsius, but can reach around 29 to 31 degrees Celsius. "This is due to the position of the sun being south of the equator and lack of significant cloud cover," said Rahayu.
Air humidity levels range from 50 to 90 percent. The wind is blowing southeast at a speed of 5 to 21 kilometers per hour. These local conditions influence the weather in Greater Bandung, including the Bandung City and Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and West Bandung Regency.
"Currently, the West Java region, including Greater Bandung, is in a transition season from the rainy season to the dry season," she said.
BMKG asks the residents of Greater Bandung to be vigilant of the bad weather potential such as heavy rain with lightning and strong winds. There is also the potential for weak tornadoes and hail which could cause flooding, landslides, uprooted trees, and other material damages.
According to BMKG records, several global-scale atmospheric and ocean dynamic factors do not have a significant effect on cloud formation and increased rainfall in the western region of Indonesia for the next week.
Meanwhile, in open waters, BMKG estimates that the wave height in northern waters or the Java Sea around the West Java area will be between 0.5 to 1 meter. Wave heights in the southern waters of West Java can reach 2.0-2.5 meters.
"Beware of the potential for high waves in the south of West Java," said Rahayu.
