TEMPO.CO, Denpasar, Bali - Denpasar City's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Saturday issued an early warning of potential extreme weather events in several areas of the Indonesian island of Bali from April 6–8, 2024.

On Saturday, heavy rains, strong winds, and lightning were forecast in districts such as Karangasem, Klungkung, Tabanan, and Badung, head of the BMKG-Regional III Denpasar Office, Cahyo Nugroho informed.

"Residents in the potentially affected districts should stay alert," he said, adding that any thunderstorms would be of short duration.

Meanwhile, on Sunday (April 7) and Monday (April 8), extreme weather has been predicted in Badung, Denpasar, Klungkung, Gianyar, Tabanan, Bangli, Buleleng, and Karangasem.

Those living in southern Bali Island could experience strong winds on April 7–8. The extreme weather could topple trees and trigger floods and landslides.

The agency has advised ship operators, fishermen, and marine tourism enthusiasts in Bali to remain alert against the extreme weather as the height of waves on the island's southern waters could reach two meters or more, he said.

Earlier on Thursday (April 4), the BMKG-Bali Office detected the seeds of tropical cyclone 96S around the Sawu Sea in East Nusa Tenggara province.

The agency said that the tropical cyclone's seeds will gradually get stronger in the coming days.

As a result, moderate and heavy rains and strong winds could be recorded around the provinces of East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara, the BMKG reported.
