TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi held a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, April 5, 2024, to discuss the indicative ceiling for the 2025 State Budget (APBN). He expected communication with the next government to be led by president-elect Prabowo Subianto in 2024- 2029.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani confirmed after the meeting that the President asked for communication with the new government so that priority programs could be implemented in the first year.
The former managing director of the World Bank said that the current government would continue to sharpen the design and stance of the 2025 state budget, given that the draft budget is being prepared during the crucial transition period.
“However, we are still maintaining the political process properly,” Sri added.
Jokowi's term will end on October 20, 2024, and he will be succeeded by Prabowo Subianto. The General Elections Commission (KPU) declared Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi's eldest son, as the winners of the 2024 presidential election.
Nevertheless, the election dispute case lodged at the Constitutional Court by the losing candidates, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md, is still ongoing.
Neither the current government of Jokowi nor Prabowo has made an official announcement about the transition team. Political observers argued that the establishment of the transition team is considered rational if there is a politically different transfer of power. Meanwhile, Prabowo-Gibran carried the theme of continuation during the election campaign.
