TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will be the host for the 2026 Queen Sirikit Cup golf championship that will be attended by golfers from across the Asia Pacific, the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI) stated.

"Indonesia was appointed as the host of the 2026 Queen Sirikit Cup by golf delegates throughout Asia Pacific after meeting in New Zealand on Friday (March 22)," Head of Championships and Achievements of PGI Adi Saksono confirmed in Jakarta, Saturday, March 30, 2024.

He remarked that the appointment of the host was a form of trust from the golf world in the Asia-Pacific region towards Indonesian golf under the leadership of PGI Chairman Japto Soelistyo Soerjosoemarno.

The Queen Sirikit Cup golf championship is a prestigious team tournament in the Asia Pacific. The final championship will be held in New Zealand on March 18-23, 2024, which will be attended by the best golfers from various countries, such as Indonesia, Australia, China, India, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand.

The Queen Sirikit Cup golf championship is a prestigious team tournament in the Asia Pacific, and the latest championship was held in New Zealand on March 18-23, 2024.

The 2024 Queen Sirikit Cup championship was attended by golfers from various countries, such as Indonesia, Australia, China, India, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand.

Since the Queen Sirikit Cup began in 1979, Indonesia has acted as host thrice, i.e., at the Jakarta Golf Club in 1980, at the Damai Indah Golf & Country Club in 1994, and most recently, at the Nirwana Bali Golf Club in 2009.

He highlighted that Indonesia will be trusted to serve as host for the fourth time in 2026.

Saksono is optimistic that the implementation of the international golf championship would have a broad positive impact on Indonesia, especially in the tourism and creative economy sectors.

PGI hopes for support from all parties to make the championship a success, so that Indonesia will be increasingly trusted as a host for international class events.

"Of course, our other goal is also to ensure that Indonesia can excel both in terms of organization and winning titles," he stated.
