Ferienjob Human Trafficking Case; Police to Examine 2 Indonesian Suspects in Germany

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police of Crime Unit summoned two Indonesian citizens residing in Germany regarding the human trafficking case under the guise of ferienjob internship.
"We summoned two suspects in Germany tomorrow morning for questioning," said Police Director of General Crimes Sr. Comsr. Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro when confirmed in Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 26.
The police investigators have named five suspects in the Fereinjob human trafficking case in Germany. They are three women and two men, namely ER alias EW (39), AE (37), AJ (52), SS (65), and MZ (60).
Two of the three suspects; ER alias EW and AE, are in Germany.
According to Djuhandhani, both suspects are likely to abstain from the examination tomorrow.
Therefore, the authorities have prepared steps to proceed with the matter. “We'll issue a fugitive list, and we'll coordinate with Indonesia International Police Hub,” he said.
Meanwhile, the other three suspects are still under police investigation. The three were not detained based on the investigator's subjective opinion and were subject to mandatory reporting.
Police Still Investigating Witnesses
Brig. Gen. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, head of the National Police Public Relations Department's Public Information Bureau, said his office was still investigating witnesses to the alleged crime of human trafficking under the guise of a student internship in Germany.
He said they also coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Embassy in Germany for the investigation steps.
"We are still examining witnesses, let's wait for developments from the investigators," said Trunoyudo in his official statement, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
He said the police would handle this alleged human trafficking case proportionately and procedurally.
Earlier, police said thousands of students from 33 universities in Indonesia were suspected of being victims of human trafficking through an internship program called Ferienjob in Germany.
